Demolition of the site is on the way to being finished. The smoke stack, which had been a landmark for Rayne for so many years, finally came down on the 7th July 2008.

The Planning Application by Knights to erect 82 Dwellings and Two Offices on the site of the Foundry has been approved by Braintree Councils Planning Committee

Two members of the public attended the meeting to address the committee to convey their concerns over the development.

Two Parish Councillors also attended with Chairman Martyn Phillips addressing the committee to put forward the Parish Councils views on the development and expressed concern over the proposed offices and three storey buildings on the site, especially those facing The Street.

It is expected that demolition of the site will start towards mid May.This has been amended to early June.

Planning Application for the Foundry site has now been submitted to BDC. Details are on the BDC website along with the facility to make comments.Plans may be inspected by the public at the Council Offices Causeway house,Braintree. Between 9am-5.30pm Monday to Thursday.9am-5pm Friday.

In the "Application Number" box type or "copy and Paste" "08/00273/FUL" and this will bring up the documents relevant to this development.

Knights have acquired site and met with Parish Councillors. A planning application is to be submitted in the near future.
